We were pleasantly surprised by our stay in Hotel 71. We were guaranteed rooms with two queen-sized beds and a view of the Chicago River and got both...and what a view! The hotel is conveniently located to all parts of the downtown area by foot, I was a little surprised by the aged condition of the room itself, particularly the bathroom which didn't have full-force water pressure or modern fixtures. But the room was spacious and the beds comfortable. The service staff was very friendly and helpful at every turn, providing quick check-in and directions to anywhere in the city. All in all, Hotel 71 was a great stay!

The location was great. Trump tower was right across the river. we even had a small view of the lake between buildings from our room. there were three women traveling together and we enjoyed the very spacious room and two queen beds. the staff was very helpful and gracious. there was a wonderful cafe two doors down for breakfast, the hop on hop off bus stopped very close to the hotel also. we really enjoyed the hotel.

The room was fine, the hotel was fine, but the fact that there was no mattress pad or other protective cover on the mattress disgusted me. With all of the people who come and go from hotels, this seems like a basic protective service, for both the hotel and the customers. Other than that, the bar/restaurant has little to offer and the staff, while not rude, was not particularly friendly or helpful. I will not stay here again.

The Hotel 71 has a great location. It is so convenient to everything we wanted to do. We were there during the recent heatwave. We walked most places and a few times took taxis. We rode taxis to the Field Museum and agian to the Aquarium. Each ride was about $* for 3 people. We walked back to the hotel each time. It was a leisurely walk...took about an hour..stopped at Buckingham Fountain..got ice cream. Then stopped in Millenium Park. (Could be a faster walk if not so hot.) The front desk staff was friendly and helpful with information. There was a lot of activity all the time, so we felt comfortable walking around the area in the evening after dinner. The River Walk is very nice. We also happened to be there while the movie,Transformers 3, was being filmed in front of the hotel. (Got some great photos of the mayhem!) The room was spacious and clean. The only negative is that I was not given the River View that I booked!!! The maid service was acceptable, but a little spotty. I left note requesting additional drinking glasses and did not receive them. When I then asked someone from housekeeping, they were very helpful and friendly. We were on the side opposite the elevators so did not experience any noise from the elevators that had been noted in some earlier reviews. You could however hear voices when anyone was in the hall ways. One of the other guests across the hall was very noisy....loud voices, loud music very late at night into early hours of the morning. Hotel security went up to address the problem on one occassion that I saw. I would probably stay here again because it is such a great location.

The hotel was great!! The front desk was very friendly and helpful. Ordered extra towels for our room and they were delivered with minutes. The location of the hotel was great for downtown Chicago. Would recommend this hotel to anyone and hope to stay there again!!
